6th Street Center Closing August 14

After 18 years of serving Butte County homeless and runaway youth, 6th Street Center for Youth will be closing its drop-in services on August 14, 2026.

Following the passage of PROP 1 in the State of California in 2024, and now implementing those changes Youth For Change has had to make the difficult decision to close our 6th Street Center drop-in services. Youth For Change will continue supportive housing services and the Homeless Emergency Action Response Team (HEART) 24/7 response team from its main office located at 260 Cohasset Suite 120, Chico. Youth For Change is actively looking for future funding to support the unique needs of homeless and runaway youth in Butte County.

Following the passage of PROP 1 in the State of California in 2024, July 1, 2026, marks the move from Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) to Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA) across the State. This change creates a shift in funding for preventative services such as those provided by 6th Street Center for Youth. Youth For Change is actively looking for funding opportunities to support the needs of the youth in this community.

The impact of 6th Street Center for Youth extends far beyond the walls of the center. It lives on in the relationships formed with our community partners, the community and families, and most importantly the youth dealing with issues of homelessness. The lives changed and the hope carried forward by those who walked through its doors is immeasurable. 6th Street Center has served approximately 5,000 youth over the years.

6th Street Center for Youth and Youth For Change are so grateful to the community and our community partners and appreciate all the support provided throughout the years. Especially, Butte County Department of Behavioral Health through MHSA funding.

6th Street Center for Youth serves all Butte County youth between the ages of 14 and 24. The Center provides supportive services including employment, education, meals, showers, laundry, clothing, mail delivery, and other services.

After 18 years, Youth for Change is deeply saddened to close 6th Street Center for Youth, but also hopeful for the future and finding a new way to support the youth in the community.
